Description of An Anu Anum

An Anu Anum was originally the supreme god of the Babylonian pantheon and was a member of the earliest generation of Mesopotamian deities. He therefore primarily served as a decision-maker, an authoritative figure, and a progenitor. The creation of the cosmos itself was frequently attributed to An or Anu, either alone or along with Enlil and Ea. He dwelt on the uppermost level of heaven, which was thought to be made of the reddish luludanitu stone. He assigned duties to other gods in heaven and had the power to elevate them as he pleased.
