Description of Blackbeard

The most famous pirate of his era was Edward Teach, often known as Blackbeard. To scare his adversaries, Teach used “bloody flags” and black banners with death heads. A horned skeleton holding an hourglass and “toasting the Devil” with its right-hand made-up Blackbeard’s flag. The skeleton’s left hand was holding a spear that was aimed toward a crimson heart with three drips of scarlet blood below it, which symbolized that no quarter would be given.
