Description of Eshu Ogun

Eshu Ogun, also known as Elegba and Elegua, is the orisha of luck and ambiguity. He is referred to as the “trickster,” because he waits at entrances and exits to disturb human lives and cause accidents. He is also known for his sexual antics and is regarded as the “divine messenger,” who transports sacrifices and communications between the material and spiritual worlds. Ogun is the orisha of iron, metalworking, and conflict. He help overcome hurdles on the psychological and spiritual levels. Ogun is the only character in “The Brother/Sister Plays” to appear in all three. Marcus Eshu, Elegba, and Elegua all receive heavenly visions or revelations in “The Brother/Sister Plays.”
