Description of Haoma

Haoma, in the ancient Iranian (Zoroastrian) religion, a deified drink, a deity personifying this drink, and the plant from which it was made. A whole yasht is dedicated to Haom in the Avesta. All three incarnations of haoma form an undeniable unity. The cult of Haoma dates back to the ancient Iranian period, the image of Haoma has an exact correspondence with the Indian Soma in the Vedic cult of India. Used for religious ceremonies. It is an integral part of the Zoroastrian ritual. The personification of Haoma is the Yazat deity. Yazats (Avest. “revered”) – in Zoroastrian mythology, a special kind of deities close to Ahura Mazda, his assistants and retinue.
