Description of Mihraba

A Mihraba (in Arabic: mihrab) is a semi-circular niche in a mosque wall that indicates the qibla, i.e. the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca, and thus the direction that Muslims should face when praying. The wall in which the mihrab appears is thus the “qibla wall”. The image of Miharaba on Persian carpets is a symbol of the gateway to paradise.
