Description of Shala

Shala was a Sumerian goddess who represented compassion and grain. She was Adad, the weather god’s wife. She is thought to have come from northern Mesopotamia, and her name may have Hurrian roots. She was particularly revered in Karkar and Zabban, which were regarded as hubs for her husband’s religion. Later, she was revered and honored in other cities as well. Besides being linked to compassion and grain, she was also connected to the Virgo constellation.
