Description of The Heron

The geoglyph with the heron showes a heron with characteristic spindly legs, extended neck, tapered body and spear-like beak, this geoglyph depicts one of the Nazca culture’s most prized avian creatures. As an aquatic sustenance provider, the heron represented the abundant marine resources allowing Nazcan life, commerce, and advancement along Peru’s fertile coast. Its presence reminded the Nazca to respect the ocean’s gifts, while emulating the heron’s refined poise, tactical hunting skills, and contributions to communal welfare much as the Nazca did via agriculture.
