Description of The Spider

The Spider Nazca geoglyph with eight long slender legs symmetrically radiating out from a large circular central body is believed to depict a powerful female creator deity that was revered in Nazcan mythology. As master weavers of textiles, the Nazca associated spiders and their intricate web designs with the foundations of life and the generation of new life, as well as wisdom, patience, creativity, and feminine power. The Nazca likely viewed this prominent spider geoglyph as an homage to their key mother goddess who wove the threads of their very existence.
