Description of The Tree

The Tree Nazca geoglyph consists of a short, thick tree trunk that splits and expands into numerous large branches decorated with smaller twig-like extensions in a lush, flourishing pattern. As an agrarian society dependent on the bounty of nature, trees were sacred symbols of life, sustenance and survival to the Nazca people. Trees provided food, medicine, building materials, tools, shade, oxygen and water – the very fundamentals for the continuation of Nazca civilization. This stylized tree may have represented the connectivity between the Nazca people, the natural environment, and the gods believed to inhabit nature’s realm.
